עדי שטרן היא בעלת תואר ראשון בהצטיינות בביולוגיה, בפסיכולוגיה ובמתמטיקה מאוניברסיטת תל-אביב, ותואר שני ושלישי מהמחלקה לחקר התא ואימונולוגיה בפקולטה למדעי החיים של אוניברסיטת תל-אביב.
עדי שבה לאוניברסיטה לאחר שהות של כשלוש שנים בקליפורניה, שם שימשה כפוסט-דוקטורנטית בשתי מחלקות מובילות: המחלקה למיקרוביולוגיה ואימונולוגיה באוניברסיטת קליפורניה בסן פרנסיסקו והמחלקה לביולוגיה אינטגרטיבית באוניברסיטת קליפורניה בברקלי.

Our research interests lie in the rapid evolution of viruses and their hosts. Viruses and hosts are at war: in order to survive, each side must constantly gain new weaponry. In our research lab we use a combination of computational biology, evolutionary theory, and experimental evolution in order to gain an understanding of this fascinating arms-race.
