Research

Over the past few decades, breakthroughs in genome sequencing have shed light on the genetic basis of numerous diseases. The identification of causative mutations is no longer rate limiting, but the molecular mechanisms leading to protein dysfunction and thereby to the clinical phenotypes often remain poorly understood. Thus, biochemical validation of the genetic data is essential to achieve a better understanding of disease mechanisms and the resulting therapeutic possibilities. My research focuses on elucidating the structural and functional basis of human diseases at the protein level using cutting-edge molecular methods from the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysics.
