מחלקה לגנטיקה

ד"ר גיגר הצטרפה למחלקה לגנטיקה מולקולרית של האדם וביוכימיה בפקולטה לרפואה באוקטובר 2011. ד"ר גיגר השלימה את לימודי הבוגר והמוסמך בהצטיינות באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים, ואז המשיכה שם בלימודי דוקטורט במחלקה לכימיה ביולוגית. את הכשרת הבתר-דוקטורט קיבלה במכון מקס-פלנק לביוכימיה במינכן, גרמניה, בהנחיית פרופ' מתיאס מן, מומחה עולמי בתחום הפרוטאומיקה -  חקר גלובאלי של חלבונים. היא קיבלה מלגות בתר-דוקטורט מקרן אלכסנדר פון-הומבולדט ומקרן מינרבה. 

 

ד"ר גיגר משתמשת בפרוטאומיקה לחקר סרטן, ובאופן ספציפי, חוקרת את המנגנונים של התפתחות הסרטן, עליית פולשנות התאים ותגובתם לטיפול. במחקרה פיתחה ד"ר גיגר טכנולוגיה המכונה Super-SILAC'', המאפשרת כימות מדויק של חלבונים מרקמות גידול. 

 

באוניברסיטת תל אביב מטרתה העיקרית היא לזהות סמנים מולקולרים שיאפשרו לרופאים לצפות מהי מידת האגרסיביות של הגידול, במטרה לתרום לפיתוח תרופות אנטי סרטניות.

תחומי מחקר

המעבדה עוסקת במחקר פרוטאומי של סרטן השד. אנו משתמשים בשיטות של מס-ספקטרומטריה מתקדמת  לבחינה של שינויים בחלבונים ובמודיפיקציות שלהם בצורה גלובאלית, ואנליזה של דוגמאות קליניות של סרטן השד. המעבדה שמה דגש על שינויים מטאבוליים המתרחשים בתאים הסרטניים, ומשתמשת במידע הכולל על הפרוטאום להבנת הרשתות המטאבוליות. שילוב של המחקר הפרוטאומי עם שיטות ביוכימיות וגנטיות יגלה את החשיבות של חלבוני מפתח להתפתחות הגידולים ויבחן את הפוטנציאל שלהם כמטרות תראפויטיות ודיאגנוסטיות.
