Beyond musical training, he holds a Mastes degree in Classical Studies from Tel-Aviv University. |

In 1975 he studied Plainsong with Dom Jean Claire at the Abbey of Solesmes in France. |
Braun’s main academic interest focuses on a comparative study of traditional Jewish Melos and of Plainsong.
He has lectured on this field at universities and congresses in England, France, Germany, Italy and the United States.
Braun is Professor Emeritus at Tel-Aviv University.
A versatile and prolific composer, both of vocal as of orchestral and chamber music, Braun has also composed for theatre, film and television as well as settings of traditional Jewish melodies.
In addition, Braun has published an anthology of traditional Jewish melodies, articles, mainly on Melody and Modality, and translations of Classical Greek poetry.
In 2001 he has been awarded the Israel Prize in Music.
