יובל ביסטריץ סיים תואר ראשון בפיזיקה, השלמות לתואר ראשון ותואר שני בהנדסת חשמל, ותואר שלישי בהנדסת חשמל בשנים 1972, 1978 ו 1983 כולם מאוניברסיטת תל אביב. עשה פוסט-דוק באוניברסיטת סטנפורד (1984-86) ובמעבדות בל (1986-87). ב 1987 הצטרף כמרצה בכיר והיום הינו פרופסור מן המנין במחלקה להנדסת חשמל-מערכות. פרופ' ביסטריץ הוא עמית של ה IEEE שגם העניקה לו בשנת 2015 את פרס Belevitch כהוקרה על תרומותיו הפונדמנטליות בתחום מעגלים ומערכות.
