THE ADLER-BUCHMANN
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM
The Adler–Buchmann
International Program for Outstanding Foreign
Students was established in the summer of 2008
thanks to the generous support of Tel Aviv
University’s benefactors, Dr. Mario A. Adler from
Brazil and businessman Josef Buchmann from Germany.
The program aims to provide outstanding
international students with the opportunity to
live and study in Tel Aviv under optimal
conditions. Students participating in the school
orchestra will be granted a full-tuition
scholarship. A limited number of students
who demonstrate outstanding level of
performance or
who play an instrument that is
designated essential to the orchestra's
activity will also
be eligible for a living stipend.
Students accepted
to the program have the privilege of studying under
the umbrella of Israel's largest university, Tel
Aviv University, as well as one of the world's
leading orchestras, the Israel Philharmonic
Orchestra. The faculty is comprised of Israel's
foremost musicians and pedagogues, many of whom are
principal players in the IPO who have achieved
international acclaim.
Since music is an
international language, The Buchmann-Mehta School of
Music was chosen as the front-runner in the
University's internationalization process. Now in
its second year, the program involves 26 students
from countries as diverse as Brazil, Canada, Kenya,
Japan, Taiwan, China, Spain, Latvia, Hungary,
Finland, Russia, Italy, France, Germany, The
Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Kosovo.
The program offers
Bachelor's and Masters degrees, as well as
professional non-degree studies. Performance
opportunities include participation in the Symphony
Orchestra, chamber ensembles and opera productions,
conducted bilingually in Hebrew and English.
Theoretical courses
are taught in English and are available to both
foreign and Israeli students, thus increasing the
opportunities for interaction and cooperation
between locals and guests.
Thanks to the
generosity and efforts of Dr. Mario A. Adler and Mr.
Josef Buchmann, the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music
is realizing the goal of becoming a significant
international center for musical academic study and
professional training.
The
International Program in English is offered for studies in the Instrumental
and Vocal departments, as well as for
postgraduate
studies in conducting.
Studies of
composition, musicology and undergraduate studies in
conducting are offered in Hebrew only. International
students can study in Hebrew if they have good
knowledge of the language.
