Busy work.
In this particular case, the Boidem is not a case
in point. Quite purposefully, the Boidem is
about as simple as it comes. Though for quite
a while now I've been using a more or less WYSIWYG HTML editor, not only can almost
all of the Boidem be prepared via simple HTML tags, I often type the tags straight
into my writing instead of using the immense power of the graphic editor.
But there are other sites I've worked on that have been a bit more complex. The
Boidem, for instance, doesn't have a navigation bar on the left side of each page,
giving it not a retro, but an almost Neanderthal, look.
It doesn't have a bar of that sort primarily because I don't want it to, but I
can't deny that there's another reason as well - a reason that certainly merits
being explained in this particular column.
The Boidem is now almost ten years old. Back when it started (and I
trust I'm remembering things correctly here) a standard web page was incredibly
simple - basically text with some graphic elements thrown in between the paragraphs.
Relatively few sites had a menu bar going down the left side of the page, and
I had no reason to do something out of the ordinary.
