I first called attention to this phenomenon nine years ago. I strongly doubt that today there are still enough people around who both learned to type on a typewriter and haven't used a word processor enough to break old habits. If there are still examples out there of two spaces after a period, I doubt that anybody is going to find them (or, for that matter, would care to look).
