This is a scalding injury to the skin of the hand of an adult. Burn injuries can occur with exposure to any hot environment or hot surface--a fire is not needed. Some of the worst burn injuries occur with hot liquids. A small child who reaches up and tips over a pot of boiling liquid from a cooking surface can be severely injured. A baby's skin is much thinner than an adult's, so make sure the baby is not placed in too hot water for bathing or washing. |
