Microscopically, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can involve both glands and stroma, though the former usually become more prominent. Here, a large hyperplastic nodule of glands is seen. Serum levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA) may become slightly elevated with BPH, but often no more than double the upper limit of normal.
