Research Grants

The University Institute for Diplomacy and Regional Cooperation operates within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Tel Aviv University with the aim of promoting research, discussion, and systematic thought in its areas of interest.

During the academic year 2006-07, the Institute is offering research grants to researchers at academic institutions in Israel who are working in areas of the Institute's specialization, as follows:
4 research grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 (in NIS)
2 research grants for doctoral students in the sum of $5,000 (in NIS)
Preference will be given to research projects in the following areas:
  • Diplomacy of the Israeli-Arab peace process;
  • The management of Israel's foreign relations;
  • Issues in the foreign relations of Middle Eastern states;
  • General theories of diplomacy and negotiations;
  • Regional cooperation (economic and otherwise) between Israel and its neighbors;
  • Regional cooperation in the Middle East;
  • Regional cooperation in other areas worldwide.
Research proposals must include a brief description of the study to be undertaken, its expected contribution to the field, the research methods and sources to be used, a planned timeline, a detailed budget request, and a c.v. The name of the researcher and the title of the research project must be provided in English and Hebrew. Researchers must also indicate whether they have requested or received outside funding for their project. Research proposals may not exceed 8 pages (not including the researcher's c.v.)

Research projects accepted by the academic committee will be funded according to the research budget approved. The Institute reserves the right to publish works that are carried out under its auspices, as part of its series of publications.

Doctoral students must also provide a thesis plan approved by an Israeli university, in addition to the abovementioned information required for all research proposals. Only doctoral projects in their initial stages will be considered. The grant may be used only toward research costs detailed in the submitted budget.

Proposals must be submitted by 31 October 2010, in 9 copies, to the University Institute for Diplomacy and Regional Cooperation, Naftali Building, Room 721, Tel Aviv University, Ramat Aviv 69978. An instruction sheet for researchers may be requested from the Institute.
