Putting an asterix on that record.
Trying to determine just what sort of a record "most searches in a 24 hour period"
actually is raises more questions than it answers. In an era of media bites and
short attention spans, tens of thousands of people can express a sudden interest
in an event today, and be totally oblivious to it tomorrow. Thus, at the end of
March, after only eight weeks on the Lycos 50 list, Janet Jackson had been cut,
a bit, down to size, and was now No. 18.
Quite frankly, I find that rather fascinating as well. Being No. 18 may not be
much of an honor, but it definitely means that people are still searching for
you. Does that mean that there are there still people out there who haven't yet
received a photo of Janet Jackson's breast via e-mail? Is there something new
happening with her that I'm not aware of that keeps
her relatively in demand? Do people want to return to take a look at that breast
and not know how to bookmark it?
