Even if I don't accept it, I can understand the reasoning behind the finding-a-watch-on-the-beach
argument for the existence of God. Even with wars, famine, disease and who knows
whatever else that suggests that either he or she hasn't been keeping up his or
her work, or doesn't have the omniscience we might wish, it's easy to get the
feeling that there's order or purpose to our small corner of the universe.
But I doubt that, on the outside chance that somebody were walking along the beach
on a desert island and stumbled upon the internet,
that person would be able to exclaim "this is the product of a guiding hand,
this denotes a purpose". Frankly, it's a mess. And very often, that's precisely
what's so great about it.
