Everything2 is what might be called the Wikipedia on acid - a freewheeling compendium of facts, partial-facts, non-facts and anything else that registered users think is worth musing about, with an associative linking structure that can keep you from getting any work done for hours. Although the format of the site suggests that there's some underlying structure to the information found there, I suppose that that's only some sort of purposeful camouflage - anything goes. That isn't the case (or isn't supposed to be the case) with these columns. I'm often more than willing to let things fly off on some tangent, but I'm also constantly reminding myself that somewhere, a few pages back, there was a purpose to all this.
