... I really don't have the time to listen.
For many years I've told the possibly apocryphal story I picked up somewhere of
a very successful former hippie-esque businessman who refused to use a cellphone
in his car because the only time he could listen to the rock and roll he loved
was when he was driving in his car, and he didn't phone calls to interfere with
his listening. If this guy really exists, I can well understand him. I'd love
to wander the streets of a city, encountering moving human interest stories on
various street corners, but I doubt I'd have the patience to listen. I've got
other things to do.
But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't want to jot down a URL that would let me
hear that story later when I got home. And doing so should be very easy to arrange.
With the same cellphone that I might use to receive
a Grafedia graphic, I could take a photograph of a URL which I could send to my
computer and have the stories that relate to particular spots ready for me when
I got home. If I could do this I wouldn't have to listen impatiently to an enjoyable
story, weighing my interest in the story against my need to be somewhere else
fast.
