(abstract)
The first author of the above-mentioned paper asked himself, why out of all quatrains in the world, he picked out precisely this Rubáiyáth for manipulation. As for choosing a Rubáiyáth out of all quatrains, the reasons seem to be suggested by the perceptual dynamics discussed in the main paper. As for choosing precisely this Rubáiyáth, he recalled that he first encountered Omar Khayyam's Rubáiyáths in Szabó Lörinc's Hungarian translation, when a teenager. Unlike in FitzGerald's English version and in Jabotinsky's Hebrew translation, in the Hungarian translation the rhymes have an exceptional virtuoso quality, which contribute to its musical, even "hypnotic", quality. A semantic comparison between the English and the Hungarian versions points up that the Hungarian version deviates from the English version in the direction of "hypnotic" poetry. The exercise of rhyme-manipulation in this Rubáiyáth was first performed as part of a study of "hypnotic poetry".
