Special lecture in memory of Shulamit Goldhaber:

"Physics in 1900"

Prof. Andrzej Wroblewski
Institute of Experimental Physics, Warsaw University

The state of physics in 1900 will be reviewed by making use of the documents of that year, in particular the material of the First International Physics Congress organized in Paris in August 1900. Contrary to simplified accounts which portrait 1900 as the year of revolutionary transition from classical to quantum physics it will be shown that almost all physicists at that time were satisfied with classical physics and were actively enriching and expanding it.
