Discussion of the Question 08/04
FALLING MAGNET
The question was:
Bar magnet falling in a vertical copper pipe quickly reaches
"terminal" velocity and stops accelerating. Find that velocity
as a function of the features of the magnet and the pipe.
(5/05) Y. Kantor: We did not get a complete solution of the
problem yet. As a hint, we publish a solution of a closely related problem
("Pitching pennies into a magnet") by Kirk T. McDonald from Princeton
University, NJ, USA. A copy of the solution can be found in the
following PDF file.
