Question 06/00
HYDROGEN ATOM
Is it possible that two different transitions in hydrogen atom
give the same frequency of radiation?
Comment 1: Disregard degeneracies due to different orbital and magnetic numbers ("l" and "m").
Consider only different atomic levels "n".
Comment 2: Consider a "simple" model of hydrogen atom, i.e. disregard complications
introduced by spin, Lamb shift, etc.
This question was asked by Walter Wyss at the 1997 oral exam at University of Colorado
at Boulder.
