This is a halo nevus, so called because the central pigmented area is surrounded by a lighter zone. Nevi can show considerable variation in their gross appearances: flat to raised, pale to darkly pigmented. However, most are small, well-circumscribed lesions that hardly seem to change at all, or change very slowly over time.
