![]() | Sialography is radiographic evaluation of the salivary glands by injection of contrast material into the draining duct. Parotid glands and submandibular glands. Seen here with injection of contrast material after cannulating Stensen's duct that exits the mucosa opposite the second molar is a sagittal view above and coronal views below which demonstrate a chronic punctate sialadenitis. As opposed to a normal parotid gland which would show Stensen's duct to branch into many fine branches, this study shows globular ectasia of small ducts with a diameter between one and three millimeters. This is consistent with the inflammatory changes that occur in Sjogren syndrome. |
