Here is the normal gross appearance of the adult pancreas; a small portion of duodenum is at the left next to the head; the tail of the pancreas is at the right. The pancreas has a tan, lobular architecture. Adjacent adipose tissue and lymph nodes are closely apposed, surrounding the pancreas in the retroperitoneum. The lesser omental sac is posterior to the pancreas.
