This is the normal appearance of a peripheral nerve in longitudinal section. The nerve is composed of individual axons covered by a myelin sheath formed by a Schwann cell. A thin connective tissue layer, the endoneurium, surrounds individual nerve fibers, and the perineurium surrounds a bundle of nerve fibers.
