This is normal skeletal muscle with immunohistochemical staining using antibody to desmin. Desmin, along with vimentin, is an "intermediate" filament between the size of thin actin and thick myosin. Both desmin and vimentin secure the periphery of Z disks to adjacent myofibrils. Another protein, dystrophin, binds actin and aids in attaching bundles of myofibrils to the sarcolemma.
