Here is a well circumscribed mass arising from the bronchial wall and composed of uniform small blue cells in sheets and nests. This a carcinoid tumor, considered possibly the benign counterpart of the small cell carcinoma. These tumors usually reach 1 to 2 cm in size before producing symptoms related to obstruction and bleeding.
