| At higher magnification, the thick wall of the C. immitis spherule is seen in a giant cell in the center of this image. The spherule contains endospores. In the United States, C. immitis is endemic to the desert Southwest, but it can be found inhabiting dry plains of North and South America. In nature, C. immitis exists in a hyphal form with characteristic alternating arthrospores. |
