One of the ways to treat portal hypertension is to create a shunt between the portal and systemic circulations. Seen here is a transhepatic intrajugular porto-systemic (TIPS) shunt, a wire mesh, that is introduced via a venous catheter and pushed through the liver parenchyma to connect a large portal venous branch and the hepatic venous drainage.
