Obstruction of a salivary gland duct can lead to inflammation. Seen here at low power are chronic inflammatory cell infiltrates along with fibrosis and acinar atrophy. The sialadenitis here is due to ductal obstruction. Bilateral inflammation of salivary glands can occur acutely with mumps infection and chronically with Sjogren's syndrome.
