At birth, each ovary is a small thin structure. Adjacent fallopian tubes are larger, extending from either side of the uterine fundus. (The bowel has been removed here to reveal the internal genitalia in the pelvis.) However, there are more ova at this time than any other. Past puberty, most of the ovary consists of stroma, with several dozen ova remaining for reproductive years.
