At high magnification, the thick cortex is seen, along with some scattered follicles. Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) may be due to pituitary dysfunction with either irregular release of LH or with hyperprolactinemia. Treatment consists of controlling the menstrual cycle and inducing ovulation pharmacologically.
