This diffusely enlarged thyroid gland above and the one shown below are both somewhat nodular and weigh more than 30 gm. These patients were euthyroid but noted increased fullness to the neck. Multinodular goiter represents the most common cause for an enlarged thyroid gland and the most common disease of the thyroid. Both thyroid lobes are typically diffusely enlarged, but there may be somme asymmetry.
