| The course will deal with the central semantic notions of meaning and reference, and the readings and lectures/discussions will begin with the lecturer's "The Meaning of Meaning", and on discussions and responses to that paper. After that we will look at some of the classical discussions by Frege, Russell, and Strawson, on the work of Quine and Davidson, and, if time permits, with articles by Kripke and Burge. | |
