Born in Poland 1933, arrived in Palestine 1947. Married to Geulah
(Zifferman) Gorny and they have two married sons: Ran and Oded.
B.A., 1958, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in history, general
and Jewish.
M.A., 1965, Tel Aviv University, in Jewish history (with distinction):
Thesis: "The Ideology of the Labour Movement in Palestine
During the Second Aliyah," under Prof. R. Mahler.
Ph.D., 1971 Tel Aviv University (summa cum laude): Dissertation:
"Ahdut Ha'Avoda 1919-1930: The Ideological Principles and
the Political System," under Prof. M. Mishkinsky.
Prof. Gorny's adminstrative and academic activities have included:
Head of the Chaim Rosenberg School of Jewish Studies; Head of
the General B.A. Studies Program; Incumbent of the Abraham and
Edith Spiegel Family Foundation Chair of European Jewish history;
Head of the Chaim Weizmann Institute for Research in the History
of Zionism.
He has been visiting Professor teaching in Jewish Theological
Seminary in New York; New York University and the University of
Chicago.
