What do you mean by "made an impression"?

What can I say? I'm always on the lookout for new topics to fill up these columns, to keep me from calling it quits. And that's why "making an impression" is basically a euphemism for the light bulb that lights up over our heads when we think "hey, that's a topic I can write about!".
