Even if I don't like it ...
I don't want to be unfair. I find this "tool" extremely problematic,
but that doesn't mean that other people haven't found it useful. A number of reactions
to Did They Read It have shown up on the web. Quite a number of these seem to
be discussions on primarily technical forums, dissecting how the bug works. On
one of these, however,
one reader reports:
I've been using a similar service called Readnotify.com
for a couple years now, and I find it extremely useful in my everyday business(manufacturing
musicial instrument accessories)
I use it when contacting new potential suppliers, musicians, etc. It lets me
know if they've read it and are ignoring me, or whatnot. I also use it when
reporting Spam, and I know if an abuse team has read my mail, or forwarded it
on to the spammer. You'd be surprised at the astonishing amount of abuse reports
that are never even read! (upwards of 80%)
The service saved me one day, when after five years of searching, I located
the actual manufacturer of a part I use. I contacted them about buying direct...they
ignored my inquiry, and they forwarded it onto my supplier (the middleman) and
I knew what to expect the next time I spoke to them.
And that being the case I keep my criticism to the more conceptual aspects of
the tool.
