Okay, tell me already.
So what is the Wikipedia? Perhaps we should let it speak for itself. The definition
is, after all, rather simple:
Wikipedia is a wiki-based free content encyclopedia
with supporting almanac-like and gazetteer-like information. Free means both
free to use and free to edit. Wikipedia is multilingual, and an open-content,
collaboratively developed creation, managed and operated by the non-profit Wikimedia
Foundation.
But what do we learn from a definition such as that? Free to use, is, of course,
rather clear-cut. But free to edit? Ah, there's the rub. Almost all of the pages
in the Wikipedia are open for editing at any time, by anyone. Quoting an entry
can be a dangerous thing, considering that there's no guarantee that the same
text is going to be there when someone tries to check
your source.
