It's not all a downhill ride. There is, for instance:

• the AltaVista Media Finder which comes in very handy when you want a photograph of something
• the Ask AltaVista a Question function which sometimes really finds just what you're looking for
• the ability to run a search in different languages, which sometimes even turns up good results in Hebrew
• the AltaVista Translation service which is nothing short of wonderful even if I can only rarely figure out why to use it, or find a page worth putting it to work on
