another historically significant race
An AltaVista Search brings up about 1500 references to "the tortoise
and the hare", though an inordinant amount of them seem to refer to reviews
or advertisements for children’s games of that name. A few minutes of checking
out those references (and paring the hits down to about a thousand by eliminating
“CD” and “software” from the search list) brought me to a few passable
versions of the tale, though not Aesop’s:
One
is by a Ghanian folk singer.
Another
version, somewhat HTML-like, can be found in the Internet Public Library.
Yet
another was uploaded by someone who sponsors children via the Christian
Children’s Fund.
They all seem to make the same, important, point, though none of them seem
to stretch the metaphor by alluding to the hubris of technology.
