Maybe this date link business has already served it’s purpose. If I have to go searching for a link instead of having that link jump out at me and, waving its hands, exclaim: “Here I am, use me!” then maybe there’s no real point in this. On the other hand, my searches through This Day in History via The History Channel and similar sites, are often very enlightening. For instance, a search on the date of this column (before the usual uploading difficulties began) informed me that:
In 1936, the first 200-inch telescope was shipped -- very,
very carefully -- from Corning, New York to
Mt. Palomar Observatory in California. The lens weighed
20 tons. The Mt. Palomar scope remains
one of the most widely used scientific telescopes on
the planet -- as it looks at other planets and
beyond.
