There's no way of avoiding another, obvious and outstanding, reason: throughout this entire school year I've had, for the first time, a smartphone in my pocket. Carrying around a considerably more than functional digital camera when I've got an even better one in my pocket just doesn't make much sense. Even someone as behind the curve as me doesn't need another camera. But perhaps as part of my resistance to being overwhelmed by smartphone ubiquity I've resisted using it as a camera.
