I may be behind the curve in these columns, but in things digital, and perhaps culturally in general, I tend to know what's happening. I've noticed this when I make presentations and I refer to something that I expect all of my listeners to be familiar with. Their surprised responses tell me that it's totally new to them. After a recent presentation in which I mentioned a number of not particularly new digital developments which turned out to be totally unknown to my audience (I really should get used to this already), I was speaking with one of those listeners who had a couple of questions. In my response to one of those questions I mentioned the "new" phenomenon of silent disco and to my surprise she responded that she (and, it turns out, others) knew about it, that she'd heard about it much earlier. Obviously, there are some curves on which I'm really behind.
