Do people still do that?
I don't carry photographs of my family in my wallet. Actually, until a few years
ago I didn't carry a wallet at all. I kept the necessary documents like my I.D.
card and driver's license in a small plastic folder (yes, kept in my back pocket),
and what little money I had in my front pocket. Since then the number of documents
I have to keep by me has increased (partially because I don't throw out the old
ones), making a wallet desirable. And the fact that a wallet no longer has to
be made of leather also makes things easier on me.
All this by way of introduction - to establish the fact that I'm not an expert
on matters of this sort. But even so, I recall that wallets used to have a few
plastic slots for holding photographs. I don't know whether this is still the
case. More than half a year ago Ubergizmo, however, advertised a $50 digital
photo wallet that can hold more than fifty (very small) photos. One reader
reported that he has one of these and likes it very much, writing that:
Am enjoying tremendously showing off my family and new toy.
But this only returns us to the question of who needs a wallet like this when
an iPod, or even a cellphone, can do this, and much more. Other than the probably
outdated assumption that a wallet should have photos
in it (we don't even need them for money anymore) I'm not sure what the advantage
of this is.
Go to: Necessity is the mother ..., or
Go to: To hold in our hands.
