Link appreciation.

I'm convinced that there's an authentic aesthetic pleasure involved in finding connections between items that at first glance seem to be totally unrelated. I'm just not sure that it's a commonly shared pleasure.

Many years ago I remember being introduced to Synectics and immediately realizing that this was an idea that made great sense to me. Yet at that same time I was also surprised to discover that for many of the other people with whom I was studying, this seemingly obvious idea caused confusion and even distress. Thus, I can speak only for myself when I celebrate hypertextual associating - the making of seemingly unrelated items appear as though they're actually related - as an art. If art appreciation courses help people discover what isn't immediately obvious to their eyes or ears in a painting or a piece of music, perhaps I should consider offering courses in "link appreciation".
