When the dream becomes a reality ...
It's perhaps worth noting that six years ago,
upon receiving a dedicated phone line that permitted me to keep our connection
at home open throughout the evening, I wrote here that I was (then):
able to leave the connection open throughout the evening,
[but found that] there was close to no reason to do so. I really didn't need
the immediacy that a continually open connection afforded me.
Of course I wasn't complaining about having that immediacy available. It was more
a case of, back then, the desire for immediacy being perhaps greater than the
actual use that we could make of it. Today we're faced with the opposite problem.
It seems that we can do too much with it, such that we're not even sure that we
still really want it. Who was it who said that hell was getting what you ask for?
