Couldn't you at least remove the graphic?
Seasonal greetings are an issue unto themselves, and they often create more
than a bit of discomfort. If everybody else is wishing us a happy holiday, how
can we not join in and wish them back? There's always somebody who's sure to be
offended that we didn't write, or at least send some quaint animated gif that
puts us into the right spirit for the holiday.
Reply to all has
become the lazy way out for those of us who don't want to devote the effort to
preparing a greeting card, but don't want to seem snobbish by not joining in on
the fun. Essentially, all we have to do is let someone else do the work, and then
reply to all with our own short sentence of greeting. The problem here, of course,
is that instead of getting only one copy of a rather banal animated gif, we continue
to receive that same graphic, again and again. If somebody really wants to wish
me well, they could start by removing the graphic before clicking on send. I promise
to understand that their greeting was still sent in the proper atmosphere of the
holiday.
