Less festive than planned.
Though no formal celebrating was planned, I envisioned this tenth anniversary
edition of the Boidem as a joyous occasion. Sadly, the upbeat, even somewhat purposefully
frivolous tenor of this column contrasts sharply with the harsh physical reality
of war - a war that has brought death and destruction to both sides of the conflict,
that has been waged throughout the writing of this column and that has overshadowed
the celebratory atmosphere I'd hoped to create. Ten years ago I posted one of
my first web projects - part of a
group project on MUDs and MOOs for a course at Tel Aviv University. Then as
now, real life events overshadowed those in cyberspace. Back then, I felt a need
to post a page
that acknowledged that reality within our island of what we were then learning
to refer to as virtuality. This page must, sadly, perform that same function this
time as well.
