In these circles, to a certain extent you can't even ask whether these tools actually further learning. It's a given. But then, each field has its own axiomatic givens which, if called into question, would perhaps cause it to stop functioning. The attempt to convert a gut assumption into a workable truth can be a very positive impetus in furthering that field.
