A question of trust?
Storing my files on Google's (or Yahoo's, or some other big company's) servers
is probably at least as safe as storing them on my home hard drive. But of course
storage is only part of the picture. Personally, the privacy policies of these
companies are good enough for me - and not necessarily because I have nothing
to hide. I simply assume that as fascinating as I might be to myself, few others
are going to take enough interest in me to want to devote much time to rifling
through my files. As I've suggested in the past, one
of the important skills necessary for survival in the networked society is learning
to accept the fact that we're just not that interesting to others.
