A survey of one.
It's hard not to like this
person's methodology. In a slightly different context (but still dealing with
Web 2.0 style tools) he writes: My theory is that none
of these features [...] actually matter at all to the average person.
And
in order to test his hypothesis, he asks his (tech-savvy) mother, and concludes
that he's right.
But not everybody is asking mothers, and are perhaps reaching
a similar conclusion even without do so. Greg Sterling, writing in Search
Engine Journal, raises some questions about social bookmarking tools.
I’m a huge fan of MyWeb and use it daily. I find it incredibly useful, but I’m
not a mainstream consumer. I’m motivated to use it. But it takes affirmative effort
to save and tag the pages (not that much really, but some).
He
expresses his doubts that these tools will be adopted by that "mainstream
consumer". To my mind, the bottom of his post
is a case in point.
