With time, that tends to happen.
I suppose that I've already written too many times to repeat yet again that I
tend to repeat myself in these pages. At least this time I won't submit the links
to prove it. Yet it's hard not to take notice of the fact that the phrase "Over
the years" seems to be a front runner for the most repeated opening phrase.
I suppose that I was aware that I use the phrase often (and perhaps it's hard
not to with increased frequency as times passes and the history upon which I can
reflect continues to grow). But sometimes repetitions make themselves particularly
apparent - which is what happened this time. As I was about to link to a
previous column that dealt with a rather similar topic as this column, I couldn't
help noting that I started that column as well with "Over the years".
So ...
Over the years I've written "over the years" more times that is perhaps
desirable. I count about twenty times at the start of a sentence, and quite a
few more somewhere inside a sentence. It sort of creates the impression that the
internet has been with us for generations already.
